Geotechnical and Environmental/Water Resources Groups

DATE: Tuesday, January 23, 1996, 6:30 P.M.

LOCATION: Hill Conference Room, LeBow Engineering Bldg., 31st & Market Sts,. Drexel University, Phila., PA

SUBJECT: "Verification of Geotechnical Grouting"

SPEAKER: Mike Boyle, Geotechnical Engineer, Gannett Fleming, Inc.

The use of grouting in geotechnical engineering applications has expanded greatly in the United States in recent years. Technologies have improved to the point where grouting can be used successfully in many diverse applications. The increase in applications has led to an increased need for technology to verify that the desired end has been achieved. Testing and investigative tools have improved at an equally rapid pace as have the improvements in grouting technology. This publication is directed at identifying some of the technologies that have been successfully used in the verification of the performance of geotechnical grouting and offering some perspective on their use. This presentation presents a grouting committee report on the verification of geotechnical grouting, along with a collection of six peer-reviewed technical papers that provide examples of verification applications. Topics covered by the peer-reviewed papers include compaction grouting in a canyon fill; enhancement of caisson capacity by micro-fine cement grouting; and the evaluation of cone penetrometer grout backfilling.
